Topological Test
Built from physical measurements and reference imagery, this crystal vessel sink required two intersecting surface patterns to resolve into accurate, efficient topology.
Crystal glass vessel sink with two intersecting patterns of faceted surface detail.
  • Reproduce the product’s intersecting faceted patterns.
  • Preserve its measured proportions and surface detail.
  • Keep the geometry efficient for use in larger scenes.
  • Aligned subdivisions with the intersections between patterns.
  • Added geometry where needed to describe the surface.
  • Developed a separate rendering material for crystal detail and caustics; those effects are not represented fully in this web preview.
Photogrammetry
For all of the natural stone sinks I've done, photogrammetry was the approach I found to be most effective. This cobblestone sink details a combination of a basic sculpt given more dimension through careful UVs and photo editing.
A cobblestone sink with a natural deformation and partial display of its wireframe.
  • Model must be close to the reference for proper mapping
  • Photos must be contained in the UVs
  • Geometry should be manageable
  • Created image profiles for basic sculpting to project images
  • Liquify/blend several images from all sides of the bowl using wireframes to wrap the model seamlessly
  • Geometry divided minimally and evenly, with detail added when necessary
